Reflection on January 03 Reading

Covenant of love

12 And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 14 It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; 15 and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

~ Genesis 9: 12 -16

God is love.  That is His very nature.  After the great flood, God spoke to Noah and his family and like a show and tell; He probably showed them the rainbow.  How amazing to see that for the first time especially when Noah’s family has been cooped up inside the ark with all the animals and all other creatures.  God promised that He will never again allow water to become flood to destroy the earth.  He himself said that, “I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. 14 It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; 15 and I will remember My covenant …”

His rainbow is a physical remembrance for Him and us, that He will never again hurt us with a flood.  He loved us so much that it pained Him to close the door of the ark and allow His created beings to drown and die. But wickedness should end and He has to cleanse the earth and give man another chance at life.  He loved us so much that He wanted us to forget all about the past hurts, pains and difficulties but instead He wants us to remember His unconditional love as we visualize the rainbow after every suffering we encounter.

The invisible rainbows in our lives are signatures of God, a confirmation of His promises, revealed to us at times when we need them most.  The ones that give us hope when things are dark, which lift us up when we are down, that cheer us up when we feel isolated and alone, that carry us above and beyond the storm.

Thank you, Jesus, for the joy that comes after each storm.

Note:

There is another reflection I have written about “The Rainbow” written two years ago.
