LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON
“ Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
~ Genesis 1:26
The father with such pride looks at his newborn son and with all honesty, if the son resembles him, there’s an extra elation and kick in his heart, watching the baby’s countenance.
Reading Genesis chapters 1 – 3 never fails to amaze me how God created everything from a tiny herb, biggest land animal, fastest bird, and most colourful fish. And of course, the various flowers and trees! And to think, there never was rain before. The mist from the ground sustained all the foliage and kept them in such lush and verdant colours!
Then Adam came; the crowning glory of God’s creation. Right from the Master’s hand, he bore the resemblance, in his physical, mental, spiritual nature to the likeness of his Maker? What an honour! What a privilege! No wonder Satan was furious and jealous.
Since Adam and Eve came up until now, the enemy has not stopped to obliterate the likeness and mar the image. And because he succeeded with our first parents, he continues to weaken us, to dim our spiritual vision and warp our judgment. But we are without hope. With infinite love and mercy, the plan of redemption has been in place before the world began. Satan’s devices and tricks did not surprise the Godhead.
To restore in man the image of his Maker, to bring him back to the perfection in which he was created, to promote the restoration of the body, mind and spirit that the Divine plan might be realized – that is the work of redemption. Through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Advocate, we will be at One with God again; purified and perfect in His sight.
Thank you Jesus!
